VIDEO POEM DE-CON-STRUC-TION OF THE RED SHOES OUT ON PSYCHO HOLOSUITE'S YOUTUBE

A video poem de-con-struc-tion of the film The Red Shoes (dir. Emeric Pressburger + Michael Powell, 1948) is up on Psycho Holosuite's YouTube page today. YOU CAN WATCH IT HERE. While you're at it, subscribe to Psycho Holosuite's YouTube page. And mine, if you haven't. Warm + earnest thanks to Oli Johns, mastermind behind Psycho Holosuite, for encouraging me to make this weird thing, telling me about a way better video editing software than the video editor equivalent to MS Paint that I was previously using, for helping me figure out how to make the sound louder, and for putting up with my sometimes sloppy handiwork even though he notices the little rogue arrows on the video screen. The video is part of a new series for Psycho Holosuite called [ Not Dead Yet ]. I tried to write a film dada [ da ] piece for Psycho H on The Red Shoes in October 2024 and failed. The film was un-dada-able and in-de-con-struc-table in text. Its spirit refused capture. I ended up surrendering and writing a film dada [ da ] piece on Dead Man (dir. Jim Jarmusch, 1995) instead. But video seemed to work better for wrestling with The Red Shoes so I made this. Very relentlessly. During a blizzard. The Red Shoes is quite good--I recommend watching the whole film. It's on Criterion, if you've got a subscription. Like yes that's the ticking of my very own watch.
